Excel AddIn for MDS - change the connection string to the MDS

I have 20 Excel files connected to MDS 2012. I inserted a few lines above the line "connecting to the MDS:..."
I wrote the business headlines in these lines.
We are planning the migration MDS 2012 --> MDS 2016.
Can I change the connection string to the MDS 2016 [or MDS 2012], so that the files still working ?
