Problem: Trouble promoting changes between environments in MDS (Master Data Services) 2012

$

We have 3 environments(databases\servers) of MDS, one each for Development, Testing, and Production.  The Dev/Test environments are occasionally synchronized(backup/restore) with Production to ensure the quality of these environments.  We are having trouble determining the best method of promoting structural changes from Dev to Test, and ultimately to Production (normally including data, but data could be added later if needed).  We want to avoid promoting these changes manually to ensure the exact same structure is maintained in all environments. So again, we currently we manually have to add structural changes in MDS Dev, test, then prod.  Is there a better or efficient way to do this?

MDS Timezone - Manage Versions Page

$

The Last Changed DateTime attributes on MDS is currently appear to represent the datetime (Last Changed Date) values different from the local system(windows server 2008 R2 or the SQL Server 2008 R2) timezone.  Currently while my system/sql time is PST, the MDS timezones appear to be GMT.

Not sure if anyone else experience this or is there any additional config change required to have get timezone sync with the system/sql server.

BTW:  this happens only on the Manage versions page of MDS Web UI.

MDS Version: 10.51.2789.0 - SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

I have 2 SQL servers (2012 SP1 & 2014SP1) with MDS. Both are working well on web. I installed the 2014 version Excel add-in, however, it can connect to 2012 instance but failed to connect to 2014 with below error.

The connection failed because the URL is not valid or the Master Data Manager web application version is not supported.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

There was no endpoint listening at http://serverxxx/service/service.svc/bhb that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details

I found similar error in below, but the answer not work for me. Please advise.

In MDS Excel add-in, it is very inconvenient to select a value in dropdown box if a domain control attribute contains hundreds of members. Can it be shown as search box? Any good idea?

I found this DBAListRowLimit in table mdm.tblSystemSetting, but it doesn't control Excel add-in.

Thanks

MDS - SQL Server 2016 CTP 2.2 - Explorer Functionality Not Accessible

$

Hi,

I recently installed MDS from the CTP 2.2 preview release of SQL Server 2016 in a Windows 2012R2 (version 6.3.9600) virtual machine. MDS is the only component of SQL Server 2016 in the newly created VM - the MDS database has been created in a SQL Server 2012 instance on a separate server.

The installation / configuration of IIS and MDS seems to complete without any errors. On reaching the home page of the MDS web interface, the Explorer functionality is inaccessible (greyed out).

This looks like a permissions issue, but the user has an account in MDS and has been granted permissions to access all functionality (including Explorer, Super User and System Administrator) and has been granted access to a simple model/entity created just to test the environment. The 'version' dropdown on the home page is also blank despite version_1 of the test model having been created.

Any idea where things are going wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The web console of Master Data Services 2012 (version 11.0.2100.60) is not compatible with IE 11.

Do you know if this problem is solved in a Service Pack, Cumulative Update or in an other version (SQL MDS 2014) ?

Thanks for your support,

Sébastien

Master Data Services Upgrade Database exception

I allowed a Windows Update to run on the server hosting SQL Server 2014.  When I tried to run the MDS Configuration Manager, I got "This database requires an upgrade. You cannot change system settings until the database is upgraded."  I clicked the Upgrade Database and got this exception:

Microsoft.MasterDataServices.Configuration.ConfigurationException: Column names in each view or function must be unique. Column name 'VersionNumber' in view or function 'EntityHistory' is specified more than once. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Column names in each view or function must be unique. "EntityHistory" is an entity I created with MDS Configuration Manager before the Windows Update occurred.

I have a series of SSIS packages that continue to load data into the database, so it appears to be ok.

I have no idea what to do now. Please help.

MDS Client - Explorer not working

Hi,

I have setup SQL Server 2012 - MDS and can run the web client from IE11. I've created the model and entities from System Administration ok,  however when I try and use Explorer to work with the master data I've setup, there's an error "The remote server returned an error: NotFound".  Not sure why...

I ran Profiler while clicking Explorer,  and it's connecting with the XML statements and running without any errors - so it's seems it's not any issue with connecting to the MDS database.

I've read a lot about adjusting the Authentication - and these should be ok. Also it's on Windows 7 Home Premium.

I'm grateful for any help..

Env: SQL Server 2012

I'd like to import some tables into MDS entities.

So I found MDSModelImport Program.

Importing is worked. And I confirmed to imported columns of tables as leaf Attributes.

I tried to insert data. But In Explorer Leaf Attributes are not shown except Code and Name.

So I couldn't insert data. In Excel also it does.
